Back in 1993, people in Kattur had to travel far to go to church. Some went 7 km to Immanuel Church, and others went to Ponmalai or BHEL. It was very hard for families with small children and elderly parents to make these long trips every week.

Three local men, Mr. Immanuel Joseph, Mr. Z. Chandran, and Mr. Paul Muthuraja, decided it was time for a change. They talked to church leaders and pastors, asking for a place to worship right here in our own neighborhood.

Since there was no building yet, Mr. Paul Muthuraja kindly offered the top floor of his home. In 1993, our first services began there with about 14 local families. It wasn't just a building, it was a group of neighbors coming together to help each other and grow in faith.

Early leaders like Mr. Vedadhas helped lead the worship. Many families joined in, including J. Shelton, J. Jacob, M. Rajendran, Walter Robert Jayapal, Juney Vedamuthu, Devadoss Samadhanam, Yesudoss, Leela Durairaj, Gurumanickam, M. Raju, S. Jayasingh, and the family of Joy Kamalam.

In June 2002, Rev. G. Jayasingh became our pastor. As more families joined, the old church became too small. In 2003, the community decided to build a new, larger church. A committee was formed with leaders like Mr. M. Juney Vedamuthu, Captain J. Samuel, and Mr. G. Ezhilan.

Many people helped plan the new building, including Mr. J. Shelton, Mr. V. Paul Muthuraja, Mr. S. Jayasingh, Mr. W. Stalin Chelladurai, Mr. S.C. Edward Raj, and Mr. K. Anthony Michael. On August 3, 2003, Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. James Srinivasan laid the foundation stone to start the work.

While the new church was being built, we needed a place to meet. A very kind local man named Mr. Vairavan Chettiar offered us a large hall near the Kattur bus stop. He let us use it for free until our new building was ready. This was a great help to our whole community.

Other leaders like Mr. J.E. Daniel, Mr. M. Raju, and Mr. P.H.C. Sathiaraj also took on big roles to make sure the church kept growing during this exciting time.
